About Us
The beginning....
"As a parent with a young adult with a disability, I realised that there was a lack of continuous support that allowed individuals to achieve what we took for granted, a simple task of going out with their own peer groups.
On speaking with another parent, Fiona Ritchie, in a similar situation, with two sons with Huntington’s, we found we had the same ethos on what we wanted to achieve for our young adults.
• To try and support them to develop the skills to enhance their social interaction and achieve what other young adults took for granted. Choices to go to the pub or night club with friends. Choices to achieve the things they want.
• Involving friends, family and incorporating outside support where necessary was the key.
To the individual it seemed seamless, the support that was given was made invisible and became an extension to themselves, none intrusive and no white coats labeling.
After providing support for 2 years, we feel the time is right to move forward, with that in mind we have now employed, Sheila Robinson as Project manager, Gemma Chambers as Project co-ordinator which compliments our existing team and affords us the capability to enhance and develop our skill sets.
Stepping Stones Support offer committed and focused support to young adults, initially between the ages of 16-25 years, encouraging small steps to success through the development of strategies and support by offering it’s unique blend of active and social integration."
